AWARDS

The Society has three awards that are made at the biennial conferences.  The Paul N. Rylander Award and the Murray Raney Award are named for two scientists who made seminal contributions to the use of catalysis in organic synthesis and the Russell E. Malz Jr. Award is named for the former Chairman and long time Secretary/Treasurer of the Society.

The Rylander Award is sponsored by the Society and may be made to an individual who has made significant contributions to the use of catalysis in organic reactions.  Depending on the number of qualified candidates, it may be made annually and consists of $1000, an appropriate plaque, and reasonable travel expenses up to $1000.  The initial Rylander Award was given to Paul Rylander in 1988.

The Raney Award is sponsored by W.R. Grace Co. and administered by the Society.  It is made to an individual who has made significant technical contributions to chemistry and the chemical industry via catalyst technology based on that originally developed by Murray Raney.  This award is made every other year and consists of $1000, an appropriate plaque, and reasonable travel expenses up to $1000.  The initial Raney Award was given to Stewart Montgomery in 1992.

The Russell Malz Award is sponsored by the Society and may be made to an individual who has given exceptional service to the Society.  The award is made at the discretion of the Chairman and consists of $500, an appropriate plaque, and reasonable travel expenses up to $1000.  The initial Malz Award was given to Russell Malz Jr. in 2002.
